TIMELINE
1912
Sir M. Ct. M., Sheriff of Madras Presidency takes an active interest in and patronises a local school. He scales it up and relocates it to its current, larger 4 acre campus on Raja Annamalai Road.
1929
In April, Sir M. Ct. M. begins the process of taking over the management of the boys’ school. However, he passes away in July before the takeover can be completed.
Following his demise, his son, Mr. M. Ct. M. Chidambaram Chettiar steps in to assume responsibility for the school.
1929
Mr. M. Ct. M. Chidambaram Chettiar, a visionary industrialist and banker who generously supports various educational institutions, takes over the management of the school. In August, he renames it Sir M. Ct. Muthiah Chettiar Boys’ School in honour of his father.
1944
Lady Deivanai Achi extends funding to establish another institution dedicated to girls’ education, thereby founding the Lady M. Ct. M. Girls’ School, located adjacent to the boys’ school.

1954
Following the sudden passing of Mr. M. Ct. M. Chidambaram Chettiar, Shri M. Ct. Muthiah, his son, takes over the management of both the schools and other family business pursuits.

1956
Shri M. Ct. Muthiah establishes the M. Ct. M. Chidambaram Chettiar School in Kanadukathan, Chettinad, continuing his fathers’ legacy in education.
1978
The Sir M. Ct. Muthiah Chettiar Boys’ School, Raja Annamalai Road becomes a Higher Secondary School.
1991
To commemorate the 100th year of the Boys Higher Secondary School, Shri M. Ct. Muthiah establishes the M. Ct. M. Centenary School at Ormes Road, Kilpauk, with the mission of serving both the state and the country.
2006
In honour of Shri M. Ct. Muthiah’s legacy, the school is renamed Shri M. Ct. Muthiah Memorial School following his passing.
